  1. Dress comfortably, certain auctions go on for several hours.

  2. Get to the auction early since it is easiest to see the items at preview before the crowds arrive. During preview check for cracks, repairs, etc. We usually examine the items and will note if we found any flaws, but this inspection is up to you. The Auction House Sacramento usually holds preview on Saturday from 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM, and then again Sunday from 8:00 AM until auction and for Wednesday's auction 12:00 until Auction Time. Always check your flyer or the website to be sure. On occasion we also have off-site auctions, so make sure you know the location of the auction as well as the time.

  3. Read the flyer, if you sign-up for our email list, you will get the flyer early and will be notified when the pictures have been posted on the website.

  4. Obtain your bidder number, you will need your personal identification and if you are a reseller, your reseller number. You will do this at the front desk.

  5. Save a seat before you look at the preview; popular auctions fill up fast, and you will want to be close to the front if you are bidding. At The Auction House Sacramento, you will find purple seat saving tags by the front desk. Just place your name on the tag and tape it to the chair you would like to reserve for the auction. All seats are reserved until after the auction has begun.

  6. Check all items carefully at the preview--check for any defects, and check carefully the items you thought you would like in the catalog, since many items may look different than they did in the photograph.

  7. Try to set a budget. Don't forget the buyer's premium. The Auction House Sacramento has a 10% buyers premium, which means if you bid on an item, and win that item during the auction for a $100.00, when you check-out and pay for that item, the buyers premium will be $10.00 for a total of $110.00 plus tax.

  8. Raise your number that was issued to you when you want to bid, once you have been acknowledged by the Auctioneer, you are the high bidder until someone else outbids you, if you would like to continue to bid on the item, do so by raising your number. The auctioneer continues to take bids until there is only one bidder left. The Auctioneer will then give fair warning and then say "SOLD" and will call out the winning bidder's number. Usually people will track the items they have purchased in their catalog. If you think you have a made an error while bidding on an item, bring it to the Auctioneer's attention immediately!!!! This is the best time to clear up any misunderstandings.

  9. Once you completed bidding on the items you wanted, it's time to check out. At The Auction House Sacramento, you will go to the front desk (same place you received your buyer's number), and give The Auction House Sacramento staff your bidding number. You will receive a listing of all of the items for which you were the winning bidder. Compare this sheet with the items you tracked in your catalog. If there is a discrepancy, bring it to the attention of The Auction House Sacramento staff. Once you have paid for your items, you will receive a list of all items for which you were the winning bidder. We accept Visa, Master Card, Discover & American Express.

  10. Next, you will bring this list to the check-out area. There you will be greeted by staff that will gather your items for you. It is your responsibility to pack and carry your items to your vehicle. Do not gather your items, we will do that for you. We normally have wrapping paper and boxes available for you to wrap your items. If you plan on purchasing furniture, please remember blankets, etc.

  11. If you ever have any questions please feel free to ask any of The Auction House staff for assistance. We are always happy to assist you and would like your auction experience to be a good one!!!
